Dr. Phillips, St. Thomas Aquinas, Cardinal Gibbons, Bolles, Lake Highland Prep, St. Johns Country Day lead Dodge Sunshine Cup All-Sports Award standings through winter sports competition

GAINESVILLE – Dr. Phillips, St. Thomas Aquinas, Cardinal Gibbons, Bolles, Maclay and St. John’s Country Day lead their respective classifications following winter sports competition in the Dodge Sunshine Cup Floyd E. Lay All-Sports Award standings.

Dr. Phillips (Orlando), with 63.5 points, holds a slim one-point advantage over Spanish River (Boca Raton) in Class 6A. St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) has Class 5A all but wrapped up with 134.5 points, almost double that of second place Fort Myers which has 75 points. Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale) leads Class 4A with 110 points, 20 points ahead of second-place Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville). Bolles (Jacksonville), with 121 points, leads Class 3A by 13 points over Gulliver Prep (Miami), which has 108 points. Lake Highland Prep (Orlando) holds a sizeable lead, 105 to 89.5, over Maclay (Tallahassee) in Class 2A. Finally, St. Johns Country Day (Orange Park), with 88 points, leads Class A over second-place Admiral Farragut (St. Petersburg) with 72.5 points.

The Dodge Floyd E. Lay Sunshine Cup is named in honor of Commissioner-Emeritus Floyd E. Lay, who lead the Association from 1963 through 1980. It is sponsored by The New Dodge, the official vehicle of the Florida High School Activities Association.

Points are awarded to member schools based on their finish in the FHSAA State Series in each sport in which they field a team. Twenty points are awarded for first place, 18 for second place, 16 for third place, 14 for fourth place, 12 for fifth place, and 11 through 1 for sixth through 16th places respectively.

Winners will be honored at the FHSAA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Awards Banquet on June 17.
